The new premises
The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency(HeFRA) established under Act 829 of 2011 has now moved to its new premises at 31 Fourth Circular Road, Cantonments Accra (between the Togo and American Embassies) as from Monday 3rd April, 2017.
Object of the Agency
The principal object of the Agency is to license and monitor facilities for the provision of public and private health care services through such functions as (a) receiving, considering and approving applications for licenses, (b) inspecting and licensing facilities intended for the provision of public and private healthcare services (c) determining the basic and minimum equipment and personnel required for the type of services to be provided in a practice, and (d) regulating and monitoring activities in a practice to determine the adequacy and standard of health care provided.
HeFRA will be effective in playing its role in this critical sector of the economy to improve the health status of all people living in Ghana thereby contributing to Government’s vision of improving the human capital by ensuring proper standards compliance in all health facilities.
Offenses
HeFRA will be mindful at all times to satisfy Section 11 (172) of the Act 829, the “ a person shall not operate a facility unless the facility is licensed under this Act.’’
HeFRA aims to be reasonable, supportive and helpful but will not shy away from using the Act to enforce appropriate sanctions permissible under the Act – the penalty of breaching the Act can be severe as term of imprisonment for not more than ten years, temporary or permanent closure of the facility, or a fine not more than a Thousand penalty units.

Facilities and the general public will soon be able to contact us for licensing or complaints in all the regions, but for now we are only contactable through our head quarters at the Cantonments offices.
To enable HeFRA maintain the requisite standards expected at all health facilities we encourage users of such facilities and the general public to contact our Complaints and Compliance Department by telephone on 0302900995 or in writing to Health Facility Regulatory Agency, P.O. Box MB 534, Accra with their concerns in their visits or dealings with any health facility.
