PUBLIC NOTICE: PETITION RECEIVED ON ALLEGED MEDICAL MALPRACTICE AT COUNTY HOSPITAL, KUMASI

Management of Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) wishes to inform the general public that the Agency has received a complaint from the Medical Malpractice Victims Inc, an advocacy group for potential medical malpractice victims and relatives. The complainant alleges that a female patient recently underwent an Obstetric procedure at the County Hospital, and foreign material(s) was/were left inside the pelvic cavity of the victim. After several weeks of complaints, imaging studies confirmed suspicious material (s), which have since been corrected by a second surgery.

The County Hospital located in Kumasi has denied the above allegations. The management of the Hospital has been informed that the facility is under investigation and is placed under close monitoring by HeFRA.

As part of our regulatory mandate which is spelled out in Act 829, the management of HeFRA wishes to inform the general public that the matter is under investigation to ascertain the veracity of the alleged medical malpractice at the referenced hospital. A team of investigators was dispatched to the facility to gather evidence. The outcome of the investigation and subsequent actions will be communicated to the general public as soon as the investigation is completed.

Once again we want to assure the general public that the necessary measures are being implemented by the Agency to monitor the operation of all health facilities in the country to ensure health facilities provide quality care and maintain quality standard and safe delivery of services.

In the event of any suspicious activities by any healthcare facilities,  the general public is encouraged to contact the Office of the Registrar of HeFRA.
