CLAMP DOWN ON HEALTH FACILITIES (KUMASI)

CLAMP DOWN ON HEALTH FACILITIES (KUMASI)

The Management of the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) on Monday, 22nd February, 2021 closed down some health facilities in Kumasi namely Lake Road Clinic, Krispat Hearing Centre, De-Castro Home Care, Echoscan Diagnostics Centre, Mediscience Laboratory, Osbon Diagnostics, Sonoscan and Focus Medical Diagnostic Centre for operating without the requisite licence.

This exercise, was the second of a series of monitoring and enforcement activities the Agency is undertaking to clean up the health sector in line with its mandate as prescribed in Section 11 of the Health Institutions and Facilities ACT 829, 2011 which states that:

  1. A person shall not operate a facility unless the facility is licensed under this Act.
  2. A person shall not operate equipment in a facility specified in the First Schedule unless the facility in which the person operates is licensed under this Act.

The Management of HeFRA want to assure clients, stakeholders and the public that the closure of the above-mentioned facilities is by no means an attack on private owned health facilities. The objective of HeFRA is to ensure health facilities are in compliance with the set standards to ensure they deliver quality and safe care to all people who patronize their services.

We wish to ask for the support of the public in rooting out indiscipline and malpractices in the health sector by avoiding the use of unlicensed facilities as they do so at their own risk but to report such facilities suspected to be operating without a licence.

For the avoidance of doubt, kindly visit our website www.hefra.gov.gh /index.php/licensed-facilities/ to access the updated list of licenced health facilities or contact the Agency on 0302900995.

Thank you.
